Governor Review: Manoj Bajpayee governs, director does not.

Presented by The Kerala Story producer Vipul Shah and directed by Chinmay Mandlekar, this tense drama unearths one of modern India’s darkest chapters: the 1991 financial crisis that pushed the nation to the brink of bankruptcy. Helmed by the brilliant Manoj Bajpayee and supported by Adah Sharma and Noushad Kanju, the film promises a hard-hitting look at a critical turning point in history.

Manoj Bajpayee commands the screen with absolute brilliant as A. Ramanan, elevating a solid premise and decent screenplay. However, clumsy direction, outdated 1990s-style cinematography, poor color grading, and artificial set pieces severely weaken the film's tension. Ultimately, Bajpayee’s powerhouse performance keeps this technically flawed drama afloat, making it a decent watch for OTT streaming.

Clocking in at a brisk 122 minutes, The Governor never feels dragged down by its heavy subject matter. Fast-paced and backed by a strong lead performance, it makes for a solid home stream. The Bollywood Elephant rates it 3/5 Elephants.
