Alpha Review: Beta-Gaama ka Chhaalaa!

Even as Dhurandhar set new benchmarks for Indian spy thrillers, YRF boldly expanded its Spy Universe with the Alia Bhatt and Sharvari starrer, Alpha. Directed by Shiv Rawail, the film picks up after the events of War 2 and features Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor in key supporting roles alongside the lead duo.

Alpha sticks closely to the familiar YRF spy template: glamorous agents, exotic locations, gratuitous songs, and forced emotional stakes leading up to an inevitable heroine-versus-villain showdown. While the visuals are sleek, the action sequences are sharply choreographed, and both leads give it their all, the film is ultimately weighed down by a wafer-thin plot and underwritten characters.

In the end, as much as I wanted to love Alpha, it left me with far too many "kya yaar" moments to truly enjoy it and those songs breaking the momentum. The Bollywood Elephant rates it 2/5 elephants.
