Krishnavataram Review: A Visual Spectacle led down by something Lord Krishna is associated with!
Director Hardik Gajjar (Devon ke Dev Mahadev) has launched Krishnavataram - Part 1: The Heart, the first installment of a planned trilogy on Lord Krishna's life. The film features newcomer Siddharth Gupta as Krishna, alongside Jackie Shroff, Kartik Jayaram, Sushmitha Bhat, and Sanskruti Jayana. While condensing Krishna's epic life into three parts is an ambitious feat, Gajjar certainly delivers a unique effort.
Visually, this is the most stunning film I’ve seen all year, though its beauty doesn't entirely make it "good." While the 2.5-hour screenplay is tight, informative for newcomers, well-acted, and brilliantly designed, the movie is deeply undermined by its music. The songs are so poor—by both divine and regular standards—and so frequent that I ultimately walked out of the theater. Ultimately, it has all the ingredients of a great devotional film but is severely let down by its soundtrack.
Despite walking out during a song, the film's visual spectacle and my curiosity about Lord Krishna kept me invested, even though it skipped his early childhood. Because it is so beautifully crafted, The Bollywood Elephant awards it 3 out of 5 elephants just for the visuals alone.
