Jan Nayagan Review: CM Vijay's Swan Song is best left mute!

Vijay’s final film, Jana Nayagan (released as Jan Neta in hindi) has finally been released following a six-month delay and a high-profile certification feud with the CBFC. Directed by H. Vinoth and produced by Lyca Productions, the political thriller serves as an adaptation of the 2023 Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari. Alongside Vijay, the movie features a stellar cast including Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, and Mamitha Baiju.

Clocking in at a bloated 3 hours and 3 minutes, Jan Neta feels less like a film and more like Thalapathy Vijay’s personal political manifesto—a feature built purely to be adored by his die-hard fans.As expected, Vijay remains in complete command of the screen, effortlessly exuding the star aura that fans crave. Unfortunately, the film relies entirely on that star power without offering a solid script or engaging screenplay to back it up. Beyond Vijay, the rest of the cast seems to be merely going through the motions, with even his chemistry with Pooja Hegde feeling forced and unnatural. It’s a movie that fails on multiple narrative levels, leaving little to offer anyone outside his core fanbase.

At its core, Jan Neta is an absolute cringe-fest that fails to deliver on almost every front. What hurts most is that it doesn't even qualify for "so bad, it’s good" cult status—it's simply a slog. At best, the movie serves as a visual fan-service montage for the Thalapathy faithful, but a superstar of Vijay’s stature undoubtedly deserved a far better cinematic sendoff. The Bollywood Elephant rates it 1.5/5 elephants.
