Bollywood 2026 Half Yearly Report Card: Dukh, Dard Aur Baaki Dhurandhar.
In 2026, Bollywood’s off-screen drama—from the 8-hour shift debate to Don 3 controversies and secret weddings—completely overshadowed a quiet box office.
However, a few films still managed to stand out. Here are the 5 top and 5 bottom movies of the year so far, as the Bollywood Elephant feels:
THE BOTTOM 5 (in particular order):
5th: Toaster: My love for Rajkummar Rao is not hidden but this toaster only served burnt toast.
4th: Welcome to the Jungle: Not every thing needs to be logical but WTTJ seemed to make a mockery of the basic audience intellect.
3rd: Ginny Weds Sunny 2: The box office performance told us a lot more than the movie could.
2nd: Rahu Ketu: When you take a great concept and let the execution fall flat. Nothing worse than seeing a good concept go down the drain.
1st: Haunted 3D - Echoes of the Past: Terrifically outstandingly visible green screen, choppy editing, hammy acting is enough.
THE TOP 5 (in particular order):
5th: Cocktail 2: Even I am suprised to have this here but trust Luv Ranjan, to deliver complicated relationship dramas. He couples with Homi Adjania and gives us a suprising tasty cocktail with a good after-taste.
4th: Assi: Anubhav Sinha came behind the camera for his next social commentary which turned out to be a haunting, real and grief-stricken portrayal of the aftermath of a rape.
3rd: Dhurandhar - The Revenge: Keeping this generation away from thier phone is a task. Aditya Dhar took the challenge and ensured no one touched their phone for approx. 4 hours.
2nd: Do Deewane Seher Mein: Self Acceptance is hard, especially when a person constantly seeks validation, but anyway you accept yourself when you see it from the eyes of someone else. That's what exactly this movie was and why it is sitting such high in this list.
1st: Main Vaapas Aaunga: "पिछले कुछ सालों में इतनी खूबसूरत और दर्दनाक फ़िल्म नहीं देखी। ज़रूर देखिए, और वो भी सिनेमाघरों में।"
The 2026 Bollywood first-half box office surged past 2025's sluggish start, netting a record ₹2,075 crore—a 15% year-on-year increase. While H1 2025 relied on steady, mid-budget wins like Sitaare Zameen Par, Raid 2 and early momentum from Chhaava, H1 2026 flipped the script through monolithic, front-loaded blockbusters. This record-breaking run was heavily anchored by the historic juggernaut Dhurandhar: The Revenge, which generated a massive ₹1,813 crore worldwide. Supported by strong sequel intellectual properties like Border 2 and sleeper horror-comedy hits like Bhooth Bangla, Main Vaapas Aaunga, and Welcome to the Jungle, 2026 has successfully shifted the theatrical landscape toward massive event cinema and extended box-office longevity.
