Raakh Review: A Haunting but Overcrowded True-Crime Thriller.
Paatal Lok creators Prosit Roy and Sandeep Saket return to Prime Video with Raakh, a dark investigative thriller based on the infamous 1978 Ranga-Billa case. The show successfully recreates the horror and emotional weight of the real-life tragedy, anchored by a towering, welcome return from Ali Fazal. He is ably supported by a strong cast, including Aamir Basheer and Sonali Bendre.
Visually and atmospherically, Raakh is superb; the haunting cinematography brilliantly reflects the characters' internal struggles. However, it falters when trying to juggle heavy commentary on the caste system, social recognition, and police hierarchy—resulting in a muddled narrative that lacks the sharp execution seen in Prime Video’s Dahaad.
Ultimately, Raakh is a melancholic, terrifying tale of investigation and human conscience that works best when focused on the case itself, though it loses momentum in its subplots.
